Material Handler Casting Division Shipping

Job title: Material Handler Casting Division Shipping

Department: Material Handling 

Reports to: Material Handling Supervisor

Hours: full-time 1st shift 6:30 am to 3:00 pm Monday through Friday; overtime required

Pay: $17.00 per hour; experience will be taken into consideration

 

Summary of responsibilities

Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment.

 

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders or other records.
  • Determines method of shipment and stages materials for scheduled shipment.
  • Expedites materials for scheduled shipment.
  • Utilize computer software:  Email, ERP system (Epicor experience preferred) and various customer logistic requirements.
  • Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons identifying shipping information on cartons.
  • Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects pre-assembled containers.
  • Inserts items into containers.
  • Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers.
  • Communicates and coordinates with accounting department to ensure that shipments are cleared from credit holds.  Collects appropriate paperwork for shipment and coordinates with purchasing department and/or sales department on special requirements.
  • Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.
  • Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.  Delivers items to appropriate points of use.
  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
  • Recommend scheduling of company truck for pick-ups and/or deliveries.
  • Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
  • Operates lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.
  • Practices safe work habits, good housekeeping methods, and wears all issued personal protective equipment in the workplace.

EDUCATION and/or WORK EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Possesses or is able to acquire valid forklift driver’s license.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization. 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to walk and talk or hear.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative to those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  The employee is frequently exposed to seasonal weather-related conditions. 

 

COMPETENCE, AWARENESS, AND TRAINING

Competence, awareness, and training for probationary employees will be assessed by the “New Employee Checklist,” and the evaluations conducted and 30, 60, and 90 days, along with other training as needed. Competence, awareness, and training for regular employees will be assessed when annual evaluations are conducted, along with other measurements in accordance with the area the employee is assigned to.
